I've gotten a lot of questions about soy wax over the years; Why do you use soy wax? Is the soy wax you use GMO-free? I'm going to address all of these questions in this post!
Why do you use soy wax?
I choose soy wax when creating the formula for Bridge Nine for several reasons. The first being that it was the wax used in my favorite candles, so it seemed like a no-brainer. Soy wax also has a lower melting point than other waxes, which gives it a longer burn life. One of the biggest selling points for me was that soy wax is a bi-product of the soy bean, giving another part of the plant life.
Where do you source your soy wax?
All of our soy wax is sourced from soy beans grown by American farmers! It's really important to me that we support our local and national economy as much as possible.
Is the soy wax you use GMO-free and/or organic?
Despite what some companies claim, there is no such thing as GMO free/organic soy wax. Our supplier answers this question best;
Unfortunately no. Only a very small percentage of the total US production of soybeans is organic. About 98% of the soybean harvest has been either genetically modified (GMO) or non-GMO mixed in with GMO soybeans.
"A designation of "Organic" is also not possible for any soy wax or any wax made from liquid vegetable oil that is turned into a solid. In order for liquid soybean oil to transform into a solid wax, the oil must undergo a chemical change. Due to this chemical change, the wax cannot meet an "Organic" Certification."
