Why we use soy to make our Bridge Nine candles

Though it’s thousands of years old and has been a staple of many cultures, there are some legitimately good reasons soy has earned a bad rep. Like corn, soy has found its way into most of our processed food, despite its questionable health impacts. So I’m not surprised when I get the question: Why Do You Use Soy?

Soy wax is a byproduct of the soybean – a renewable and sustainable wax that burns very cleanly, with a lengthy burntime, so that you can enjoy your Bridge Nine Candle for much longer than those made with non-soy wax.

Soy is an alternative to paraffin wax, which is a petroleum product (That’s oil. Yuck.). Like plastic, petroleum or oil products have detrimental environmental impacts that stand in stark opposition to our position, which is one focused on creating sustainable, healthy products to improve the quality and enjoyment of our lives without harming our planet. 

So soy wax, as you can see, is perhaps the best option for creating high quality candles. We combine our soy wax with high grade phthalate free fragrance oils and the finest essential oils. It all leads to a clean burn that fills your space with an aroma you can feel good about breathing in. 

Which leads to another logical question I often get: Why Isn’t the Soy Wax Organic? Believe it or not, you cannot source organic, non-GMO soy. Here’s a well put together answer from Candle Science as to why that’s the case. 

The good news, and I’m proud to share this, is that our soy wax comes from soy sourced from American farmers. That means it’s not traveling thousands of miles over seas, which burns a lot of oil. And American workers are employed by the growers.
